Designing the curriculum. A school based training day in Hampshire.
Wasn’t sure what to expect. We knew we wanted to take more ownership of the curriculum and at the same time raise standards.
The day was just brilliant. Nick took us through the principles of disciplined innovation in a way that made so much sense.
By lunchtime we were all buzzing about what we might do next. By the end of the day we had all been supported as we planned
new and exciting experiences for the children next term.
We left feeling inspired and confident about the next stage of our journey.

Leadership Course for headteachers and deputy headteachers in West Sussex.
A year long course considering different aspects of school leadership. From Strategic Leadership’ through to ‘Pedagogical Leadership.’
Each day was exciting and innovative and filled with practical ideas that make a real difference. The climax of the course was at the end when each school presented examples of work from their own school, inspired by the course. The room was filled with such high quality outcomes. But then.. an added twist. Nick had planned a 'new learning experience' for us.
We still talk about it. Just fantastic.

Monitoring and Evaluation. One day course for middle leaders in Poole and Bournemouth.
We had the opportunity to explore what exactly we mean by great quality teaching and learning. We looked at the difference between 'monitoring to prove'
and 'monitoring to improve'.
A revelation. Just when we thought we had really understood it, Nick put us to the test with a smile.
We had the privilege of observing a whole lesson together.
We all filed into the hall with our notebooks at the ready and watched Nick teach a lesson with a twist.
I wish all professional development was this good.

Review of School in London.
Forget Ofsted, this was so much more useful.
Two days spent exploring our school in depth. What impact was our leadership having, and where to next.
Our School Improvement Plan is brilliant and owned by the whole staff.
We were challenged in ways that we had not been challenged before.
We plan to do the same thing next year.

Contemplating Thinking. A school based training day in Devon.
Thinking tools and mysteries, developing a climate to support thinking and planning for thinking.
I did not know so much could be covered in just one day.
The whole staff thought it was just wonderful. No one wanted the day to finish. We laughed, learnt, then laughed a bit more.
We can’t wait for our next day with Nick as we explore more effective planning.

Leading an Autonomous School. Key note speech Birmingham.
Thanks so much for the input you made at our national conference.
Delegates were full of ideas and there was a real buzz at coffee time which continued for the rest of the day.
Your ideas for distributed leadership teams and how they can be more effective were so innovative and exciting.
I am sure that there will be lots of schools wanting to contact you as a result.
